Jennifer is a Ugandan Interior Architect and Designer. She is a daughter of an Economist and a Diplomat whose nomadic nature of work caused young Jenny to live far and wide across Africa, Europe, America and Asia before finally settling in Kampala- the home of her fore fathers, amidst the beautiful lakes and hills of East Africa.
Jennifer believes that education is a journey; not a destination. Her life long journey has been informed by her roots and then shaped by the tapestry of experiences, friends and inspirations. Educated in Zambia, England, USA, and Kenya; her professional design education started at the Architectural Association in the 1980’s under Chairman Alvin Boyasky. It continued through Strathmore Business School in Nairobi (Kenya) where she studied Construction Management before she was engaged in design exchange programs which took her to Cooper Union (New York), The Pratt Institute, Harvard Graduate School of Design and Tufts University.
Her education, love for reading and research, fascination with Sacred Geometry and Sufi architecture engines curiosity and adaptability, a hunger for the culturally contextual as well as embracing the synergies of spaces of shared dreams of humanity and identity. These are demonstrated through design.
She is known for her commitment to designing notable residences with patience and aptitude, remarkable client engagement process; and interpretations of space (Juxtaposing). Her critical attention to the inherent values of materiality, volumes, light and flow of spaces has guided her passion and dedication to the practice of the profession.
Jennifer founded her private practice in 2006 on her return to Uganda and has worked on a range of notable projects with extraordinary visionaries, stretching from the Catwalk Set designs of Kampala Fashion Week (KFW), Set Designs with Mercedes New York Fashion Week -Team LDJ, Eclectic Pop up shops, a Selected Curator for the Avant-garde Art Exhibitions of Xenson as well as Co-opted work with a team for workshops with Sanna Gateja . This dynamic blend of cultural narratives and social commentary remains at the heart of Jennifer’s work. As part of the unique opportunities and clients’ requests, she has been engaged in designing bespoke furniture- giving substance to her interest and skill in metal work and wood. Her interest in the learning process, critical thinking and exploring the process of design has led her to be a jury member for several Architectural Student Competitions and Student Chatte Workshops, in various architectural forums.
In recognition of her leadership, Jennifer has received awards from Educational Institutes, Budonians Club, Destiny Consults Leadership and Architectural Bodies NIA (Nigerian Institute of Architects); for her service and participation in advancing the education agenda in Sub -Saharan Africa.
